IRATA Training
Rope Access Inspection is pleased to announce a joint strategic alliance with Alpinist Safety Consultants in providing a booking facility for international IRATA rope access, fall arrest, hauling and rescue courses in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
Rope Access is a form of work positioning, initially developed from techniques used in climbing and caving, which applies practical rope work to cater for the various needs of industry. It is highly skilled work and requires rigorous training and commitment. If utilized correctly it can generate considerable savings because:
- Rapid installation and dismantling of the access systems causes minimal disruption
- Rope systems are installed and dismantled quickly
- It is a practical, safe solution with the ability to solve awkward and troublesome problems that might otherwise absorb a disproportionate amount of time and money.

Correct PPE is essential. We have assembled a selection of equipment that offers unsurpassed levels of safety as well as ease of use and durability. Candidates will be taught how to inspect and safely use this equipment.
- Correct rigging procedures & knots.
- Ascending & descending techniques.
- Changeovers.
- Rope to rope transfers.
- Passing knots.
- Rescue techniques.
- Safe working procedures.
- Hauling techniques.
International IRATA ROPE ACCESS course – 5 days
The course is run to any of the three levels, in full accordance with the IRATA procedures for certification of industrial rope access personnel -3rd edition January 2001. These procedures have gained acceptance world-wide including England, France, Canada, Australia and Malaysia and allow for the safe positioning of an operator in difficult situations without the need for scaffolding etc. The course covers applicable legislation, the theory of fall factors, shock-loads and damages caused in the event of a fall and care and inspection techniques of Personal Protective Equipment.
All IRATA training courses have a mandatory independent assessment and successful candidates receive an internationally recognized qualification. Courses are run regularly at either ASC’s Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg training venues, please contact Rope Access Inspection for further course details, or alternatively use the online booking system to secure your place on the next course.

Requirements: All levels
- Physically fit
- Medical certificate for work at height (detailed medical examination form available on request)
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Be able to read and write English to NQF level 3
- Functioning literacy in English (or African language)
Duration of Course: New application – minimum 4 days training plus 1 day independent assessment. Re-registration at current level – Minimum of 2 days plus 1 day assessment (Must have in-date certification)
