RAI team members recently helped another rope access company with the hook up of a towing bridle to the FSO Escravos in Cape Town dry dock, and then another hook up for the tow out.
The world’s first purpose-built steel LPG FSO “ESCRAVOS LPG FSO” started operations in Chevron Nigeria Limited/Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation oil field offshore Nigeria in July 1997.
The FSO was built by IHI Aichi Works and towed to Nigeria after completion of the gas trial in Japan, and permanently moored utilizing an external turret mooring system at the site. The FSO is designed to
operate for 20 years without docking. The FSO receives pressurized LPG from onshore gas plant, and offloads refrigerated LPG to the export LPG carriers.
Fortunately for RAI, the vessel came in after only 12 years, due to upgrades and some external damage to the hull.
Well done RAI team members for a safe job.
